I know what you mean! Dad and I used to occasionally cut down trees that grew in local woods, but they didn't make proper Xmas trees, really. When we bought them, he would haggle with salesmen to get them down to a low price. He told me that during the Depression, he had been a Christmas tree salesman himself, so he knew the ropes pretty well! Mom and I had a really fun time decorating the tree...everything was permissible, all sorts of colors, tinsel, icicles, etc. I really loved that part of it.

Mom and I have been going through out old boxes of ornaments.. She still had several from when I was a kid.. We usually went to tree farms to get our trees.. The ones that could be bought were always dry and old.. As soon as the artificial ones came out we had one..

I think that artificial trees are the way to go, now; we have one, too. The tree farms (where we live) are far, far away, and frankly, at our age, wrestling a tree onto the car is not something we look forward to any more. We did it a couple of times, and the trees were nice, but it was just way too hard. Actually, cutting them down was the EASY part!

I know exactly what you mean.. With artificial ones there is no mess and if you want the smell you can always cut some greesn and make a wreath.. I have some lovely cedar and firs I use for that.. Sometimes I add some bayberry as well for color..

Well, Ann, I can see great minds think alike! I do the fragrance bit with free branches (all kinds) I get from one of the local tree sellers. They are all over the ground there!
